John obtained his BA (cantab) from Trinity College, Cambridge and qualified as a solicitor in 1979. With the exception of a year in Sussex, he worked for a City practice before joining Alen-Buckley in 2000.

Since qualifying John’s practice has been wide-ranging:

  • commercial litigation
  • family and matrimonial work
  • libel and media work
  • building and engineering claims
  • residential and commercial landlord and tenant work
  • insolvency matters
  • licensing
  • intellectual property matters
  • professional and medical negligence claims
  • employment matters

John’s clients include publicly quoted and private companies, frequently dealing at main board level. John also acts for high-net-worth and high profile private individuals. He has also acted on behalf of NHS Trusts.

John has appeared before the Registered Homes Tribunal, HM Coroner’s Courts as well as Magistrates, County and High Courts in all divisions. He has experience of conducting appeals before the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, the Court of Appeal, the House of Lords and has also appeared, in a representative capacity, before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal. He undertook the first ever appeal under the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act and has been involved in a major patent action and a number of intellectual property disputes. He regularly undertakes his own advocacy.

Since joining Alen Buckley John has developed a non-contentious commercial practice involving mergers and acquisitions, disposal of businesses, shareholders’ and partnership agreements and allied documentation. John’s wealth of experience enables him “to see the bigger picture” allowing him to better understand a client’s overall aims and attain them.
